Dying Under a Cloud

Synopsis:

This is an interesting narrative about the ethics of implementing hospital and state rules/laws for dying patients who are seeking comfort and relief during the dying process…
Summary:  “There is a problem: [Jake] smokes, and he has done so for 40 years. Smoking is a source of comfort for him, and being unable to smoke creates significant stress for him and his family. Both Jake’s children work full-time and have young families to support. Consequently, they cannot take Jake off hospital property to smoke as often as he says he needs to.  Where does my duty lie when policy and compassion collide?”
